“The greatest legacy we can leave our children is a lifetime of happy memories at the beach”
This weekend we hosted family from Dallas Texas. My brother, his wife and son Aaron. Family arrived Thursday night to TIA about 10pm (it was a quick ride from the airport to to the beach (about 30 minutes total). Sooooo wonderful to see them. Friday morning came early, and I cooked a my favorite (and famous) breakfast burritos for everyone who was getting prepared to hit the beach. The kids hit the beach, and my brother and I assembled a new rubbermaid cabinet for the left side of the balcony (in the nook) to house a number of beach chairs, umbrellas, beach buggy, boogie boards and a skim board which were purchased by the family and here for our guests to use. The beach Friday was so nice! While the water was a little cold (about 73 degrees) we enjoyed getting in and cooling off our sun soaked skin. Friday Max had a flag football game in the evening that Christy went to (they won) and she brought max down Friday night where he met my brother’s son Aaron. They are about the same ages and hit it off really well!
Saturday we hit the beach – it was quite a windy day (about 17 knot winds gusting to 25) so the sand was blowing a bit, but that did not deter us from getting some sun! The kids played for hours in the surf with the skim board and boogie boards while we spent quality time with the family sipping cocktails and taking in the view. Christy’s sister and brother-in-law came down to meet my family and we all enjoyed the time on the beach together reminiscing and sharing fun stories from our reckless and carefree youth.
Sunday came, and my brother and I had an early morning to head north to grab our boat and bring it down the intercoastal for the day. We docked at the dock across the street and began loading fishing gear and coolers to take the kids out on their first fishing excursion. While the wind was still up a bit, we spent some time getting poles in their hands and catching a variety of small channel cat. Max had a huge hit on his line which literally bent the pole in half, but by the time we got the pole out of the pole mount, the line broke and the fish was off… likely a spanish mackerel or perhaps a tarpon., or a small nurse shark After a day on the water, Sunday evening came too soon. It was tough to say goodbye to family, but time to get back to our busy lives once again. Back to work until Thursday when we come back down to host Christy’s brother and his family and to celebrate her sister’s 44th birthday!
